Shady Palms – Part Five – 1st Draft

Well, I did it again. After studying the arc of my ever evolving plot, I have pushed the “Infestation” title to Part Six. Sorry.

I don’t know what happened lately, but I have had a lot more free time on my hands, so I have made it a goal to spend as much time as I can working on the Shady Palms novel. I have been continuing to post updates on Facebook and reserving the major accomplishments for this blog. Last night I found myself creeping across the 60,000 word mark just as I was bringing Part Five to a close.

For the temporary record, Part V is now titled “Extermination” and it is very fitting to the events that happen in the story.

I was able to flush some more character into the FBI Agents that circulate through their own subplots, but now everything is getting ready to crash together as I enter Part VI and ultimately end the story. One of my main villains in the story is now somehow becoming more human as well. Don’t ask. You’ll just have to read it one day. The best part of the entire process is that I am finally realizing the my goals for all of my characters by exploring who they really are and what makes them tick.

I’ve come to the point where I’ve actually sketched out the floor plan of the motel so I can plot things out in my head better. I was trying to write a scene where a character is a bathroom of the motel and some action took place. After doing the sketches, certain elements of the scenes came into better focus.

As I talk more about the story with my friends, they keep telling me they are dying to read it. My only fear at this point is I know some of them are going to read the novel and then give me that look because they are going to get a peek at how truly sick and twisted my mind is inside. Hopefully some of them enjoy it so I don’t wind up scaring all of my friends away.
