I’m still in shock as I am writing this. I just finished a two day marathon of writing! I managed to bang out nearly 12,000 words in less than 48 hours. Despite the fact my wrists hurt and my ass is numb, I am very happy to announce that I finished Part 6 of the story and the first draft of Shady Palms is finally complete.
I knew I would get a little emotional when I finished the story, but now that I’ve actually typed THE END, I know it really isn’t the end; it’s just another beginning. It helps dry the tears and rest my emotions as I prepare for the second pass.
I’m still amazed I managed to complete the First Draft nearly two months ahead of schedule. When I first started out, I thought I could put a rough draft together by the end of December…actually I was just pulling a date out of my ass and praying to God I could make it. Well I did make it, and now I think I have to go out and celebrate just a little.
I know the story is still far from polished. There is a lot of work still as I also have to check some story ideas against hard facts to make sure they are believable. I’m going to let the story sit for a week and then I’ll start reading over it and realizing all the holes I need to fill in the plot.
For the record, the first draft is 78,750 words long. There are six parts to the story so far. By the time I’m done I’ll have a brief acknowledgement in there somewhere and a page with a single quote to help set the mood. I think I found the quote I want to use, but I’m sure I’ll change my mind a few more times before this thing ever sees print.
