I wanted to take a quick moment to say I just finished rewriting “Part IV: Karma” of the Shady Palms novel. I think I am back in the swing of things again and it feels good to dust off my characters so I can play with them some more. I really like this part of the book because things are finally reaching their tipping points.
For the first time during the rewrite, the word count did not balloon on me. In fact, I made it a point to hack away some of the redundant narrative and streamline a few things. By now I figure readers will know who my readers are and what makes them tick. As of right now, there are 84,980 words and 289 pages in the manuscript.
Comic-Con came and went a week ago. I had the opportunity to sit in on some writing panels and speak with a few authors. As I draw closer to completing the second draft, I am beginning to research editors for the manuscript. I have a few in mind and I want to make sure they are very familiar with the subjects of extreme-horror and splatterpunk. The last thing I want is somebody telling me to tame the blood a little when they should be telling me that I wasn’t gritty enough in a certain scene. I’m always open to criticism, but then again I know the type of horror that excites me, so I feel that is what I should be writing.
Oh well, I’m still a few months away from that decision. I hope that it doesn’t bit me in the ass like one of the creatures in my story.
