Where the hell did time go? I can’t believe it has been nearly 7 months since my last update. I can say I have been one busy guy in every aspect of my life except my writing. It seems the winter usually treats me that way. Work gets really busy and my time for writing vanishes. On top of that, I managed to get married in April and started tinkering with an obsessive new hobby called geocaching.
It’s true that I stopped working on the book for a few weeks. Then it was hard to get back into that mindset. Whenever I closed my eyes, I could see my characters trapped in time with the events of their story frozen around them. A few weeks ago, I forced myself to sit down at the computer, throw some thumping musing in my headphones and start working.
Tonight I finally finished editing “Part III: Larvae” of my Shady Palms novel. The story has evolved further and I found myself tweaking some of my heroes and villains. Somewhere in the mix, I added a few chapters as well. Currently the manuscript has swollen to 286 pages and just over 84,430 words according to my handy-dandy word counter.
There are a few points in the story where I hint at future adventures for some of my characters. I crossed one of those points during the rewrite this week and suddenly a single vague paragraph exploded into a detailed gore fest. For a while I’ve been wondering what my next big project would be, I think I am going to narrow it down between Old Mill Road and Shadow Ward.
Those people, who really know me, know that I love retro stuff, old school horror and bizarre stuff. I think the next book will allow me to explore all of that in a crazy dieselpunk powered world. I think I’m going to start writing an outline and synopsis soon story.
It’s time to go back to editing. I’ve gone through quite a few red pens while working on the revision and I think I may need to stop by Staples and pick up another crate.
