Just a quick note to let you all know that I finished writing the first draft of the manuscript just moment ago. As any decent writer would tell you – and I guess I’m a little decent – that finishing the first draft of a book doesn’t mean you’re anywhere near done.
I have one advantage, in that I worked on the story for about two years in the form of a screenplay. This helped me nail down a lot of the finer points in the plot, so now all I really had to do was fill in the emotional blanks and add some detail. Sounds easy, but it wasn’t, and it still won’t be. Even as I worked through the old script I stumbled across ideas which need to be smoothed out, expanded, or as in a few cases, deleted altogether.
It’s been a fun trip down this dark path. Hell, I threw in a few new twists at the end just to keep myself guessing. If everything still goes according to plan then Old Mill Road should be sitting on your bookshelf in the fall of 2014. Let’s see if I can squeeze this in on time.
